Awww, sorry for the big disappointment Alex!
Eric and I understand how you feel – on our cycling trip from Toronto to Newfoundland, our plan was to only use our own power + a ferry ride… but after biking 2045 km, we had to cheat and bus a sad 207 km across Cape Breton Island to make the Ferry to Newfoundland.
My plan is to someday go back and complete that stretch… maybe someday you’ll make the Atlantic crossing by boat… I wish you the best!
